how to dress my child for a photography shoot?

Choosing how to dress your child for a portrait session doesn't have to be complicated and I definitely don't want you to stress or spend a fortune on outfits.

The goal is to dress the children in something that feels like their personality.

Natural earthy tones like beige, cream, olive, rust soft browns and muted greens always photograph beautifully outdoors.

these colours compliment most skin tones and blend naturally with surroundings, creating a timeless look that  won't date.

equally very rich reds, blues and yellows offer fantastic contrast with the background and create images that pop off the screen.

If you don't own anything in these colours then you absolutely can't go wrong with black or white either. they're classic, simple and work well in most locations.

Crucial information.

Dress the children for the weather.

if its cooler, don't be afraid to layer up with a jacket, knitwear or a scarf that compliments your outfit choice.

if its one of those rare days where its actually warm, then dress the children in something breathable, this will keep the children comfortable and the Childs comfort is the upmost importance to me. this comfort will come across in the photos.

one thing I would recommend avoiding is clothing with large logos, bold graphics or busy patterns.

they can draw attention away from your child and can make the images feel dated over time.

for multiple children, I recommend coordinating outfits. this doesn't mean the same outfit or even the same colour. Choosing  colours and outfits that work well together and create a natural relaxed look without everyone wearing the same thing.

most importantly. dress the children as comfortably as you can.

their comfort is crucial for me to get the most natural relaxed photos I can.
